N/A Multilevel crossroad of Motorway "Czech sea" - water dam Kaoline dam Lignite surface mine Motorway N/A N/A

Installation site specific
Free pseudo-mystification project
Extent: 5 boards in size 420 mm . 290 mm
Realised: 2007

I placed five “tourist“ boards in the Klenová Castle in the southwest Bohemia and its surroundings. They were dated with the year of 2020 and announced what kind of improvements of life standard local people could enjoy. They described improvements of the infrustructure as well as economic situation in the region compared with previous years. The prosperity of the region had increased for example thanks to the new water dam, kaolin mine, lignite surface mine or international motorway.
In this case it was a mystification. By way of photomontage, I changed the landscape of the time into “before“ (2007) and “today“. However I adjusted the texts from real texts from the internet.

The project poses questions concerning the value of landscape surrounding us. Landscape is often devaluated or must give way to the plans which claim to “improve“ the given place (building lay-outs and changes in landscape) or use its potential (mines, quarries) and rise the standard of living of the given area (motorways, international traffic nodes). Nevertheless such promises usually prove to be a mere pressure of all kinds of lobby. In the end local people “gain“ only impaired and deteriorated environment.
